Financial concerns are a constant source of worry particularly to those struggling to make ends meet on a basic retirement pension. Often older people have special needs relating to their medical or physical requirements and they may, unknowingly, be eligible for additional help with these.
With the advent of Pension Credit in October 2003, many more older people are now able to claim extra benefit. In addition, many people who have disabilities and need help and care on a regular basis may be able to claim Attendance Allowance.
These are just two benefits but there are others, including help with rent payments, community charge bills, allowances for those caring for others and additional help with dental and optical charges.
